I, on the other hand, do have a daughter. And if I saw someone who was obviously transgendered (as opposed to 'obviously pedophile cross-dresser',) I would have no problem with them entering the ladies room at the same time as my daughter.
We don't have the complete story behind the video, just as we didn't have the complete story behind the Rodney King beating video up front; but on the face of it, this is a group of young women beating a transgendered person until she has a seizure. All the while, being egged on by the employees of the store.
Now, if the 'transgendered person' was really just a creepy crossdresser, someone who does not regularly self-identify as female, and exposed himself to the young women, then I would not have a problem with the young women defending themselves. But once it was out in the open part of the restaurant, with the 'offender' on the ground, that person is no longer a threat. And once they leave, any return to fight is purely wrong.
At best, the attackers had a legitimate complaint, and took it waaaaay too far. At worst, they committed felony assault as a hate crime.

Also you do realize that gender roles and gender distinctions are purely socially constructed concepts that hold no real barring on reality.

Those iPhones in the photo are the exact same size, just a simple case of forced perspective. The White iPhone is tilted ever so slightly to give the illusion of increased size.

The 3G iPod did not have physical feedback, and they worked.
They most certainly did have physical feedback. You had to touch them to activate the buttons or drag your finger across the scroll wheel to use it. This would constitute a tactile feedback, even if there is no click. What people are questioning is the usability of an interface where you don't have any tactile feedback. I think that the answer is that there would have to be visual feedback to replace it, thus the further issue that you couldn't simply use this iPod in your pocket or use it very safely while driving. However, if we consider that this is meant to be the video / ebook iPod, where you'll be staring at the screen anyway, this is much less of an issue.
But the problem here is everyone is assuming that none-touch means you don't even touch the iPod. Did it occur to anyone that it means you don't have to touch the screen? This allows Apple to put a more durable transparent cover over the entire face of the iPod.
Think about it - a nice smooth seamless iPod face. When you put your finger over the display, the controls appear. Your finger touches the cover, but not the screen underneath. This allows for easy cleaning, and protection of the actual screen.

The current displays all have a durable, transparent cover over them, and they still get scratches and finger prints from handling. Amazon's store doesn't bog you down with movies and games and whatnot. You go to the MP3 section and 99% of what is advertised is music, both the music you searched and others you might like.
iTunes has gotten more irritating in that regard in recent years. You click on store half the time just wanting to do a search for a song or something you're looking for and you get this MEGA LAG due to the fact iTunes wants to load up a catalog page containing about a thousand items on it with fade-through album covers, animation, etc. to try and catch your eye to sell you stuff you don't want to buy. The problem is even with a 10mbps connection, it still loads slow (at least on my older Macs and you get that lag trying to click on the darn search box which won't respond because it's far too busy loading advertisements). That sucks IMO.
You can get iTunes to move songs over to USB drives, etc. (select songs or lists and just drag it to the drive in the finder), but there's always been this bug if you move too many songs, it won't work (not sure where the exact number is, but I've run into it many times on an 8GB USB thumb drive for my car). Plus on Macs, OSX insists on copying the .files over with the songs which most car players choke on (so I use my Windows machine to do all this instead of my OSX server). Apple couldn't care less about either because in their eyes, you should be using an iPod...even for the car. Anything else is heresy and you deserve what you get. It's about time. But I've had a wireless mouse/keyboard set when I got my iMac G5 Rev. A back in the day, and I quickly got rid of it. I was sick and tired of changing the damn batteries every few weeks. I never mouse or type away from my desk, so I had no use for it, and I'd rather have the ugly wires than deal with the annoyance of buying/changing batteries often. Now, if they were rechargeable (in a dock, I don't want to have to take them out and put them in a seperate charger), I could see using them.

Yes, competition is a good thing... But how much real leeway do any of these companies have to set price points? It seems to me that the labels are the ones mostly setting the pricing, and that's in their favor, not in the customer's favor.
It seems the labels allow different prices for different stores in order to "game" the system in their favor- they'll allow Amazon to sell for less in the hopes of eating into Apple's market share and taking away more of Apple's leverage to negotiate for lower costs for itself (and customers).

I bought a second apple TV for my bedroom, instead of buying a new TV, or a blu ray player, or another gizmo etc... so I could watch MLBTV and netflix, and have the ability to download movies occasionally.
I would happily pay for a new apple TV again this year and take the old one and hjook it up to one fo the other 3 televisions my house, if the features and upgrades were worth it to me.
Airplay is amazing.
I'll spend another 700 bucks on a new Ipad in another year or two, and will buy a new Iphone every two years.
I won't spend more than $1500 on a 55 inch television, and I won't even buy one until mine breaks. People buy televisions every 5 to 10 years. Apple isn't getting into the TV business.
Unless they plan on re-inventing the television, the way they did the radio, stereo, record player, telephone, dvd player, vcr, computer, newspaper, magazine and book.

I had an engineering friend that did exactly that in the early 1980s. He sold his house and all of his investments, and purchased gold. At the time it was trading right around $900/oz. Needless to say his expectation of the demise of the US Economy and upswing in gold value didn't pan out in the long term.
I saw him at a party over the holidays this past year and asked if he was excited to finally be near the break-even point again. He was not amused.
Gold goes up because of investor fears about market uncertainty and global uncertainty (and the bulk of global uncertainty is driven by US geopolitical actions). When the predicted global calamity doesn't happen, the price of gold declines again. Since we have been fortunate enough to be unable to test what happens after a global calamity, we can't be certain what will happen to the price of gold then. My guess is it will be worth slightly more than paper, and less than a loaf of bread.

Switzerland is reporting a shortage of gold and Russia has announced that they will be backing up their currency with gold. Bottom line is I don't mind taking a chance on my research, especially with the tensions in the middle east.
