first: in the browse by artist/song/genre listings, provide an alphabetical jump-list so people don't have to scroll through the entire catalog.
right now it's not a problem to scroll through the entire database -- it's at a size where this can still be done. but once you hit critical mass, i'm imagining a scenario where someone wants to look at the content on a scope somewhere between a full-catalog browse and a specific search. accessing what's in the database might be an easier task if the information is available at several different granularities.
second: (and this may be what user jbembe recently suggested; i'm not sure if i followed that thread correctly) provide a weighted song-recommendation function. pick a song, or a group of songs, from your playlist. other people's playlists are scanned, and playlists that contain your selection(s) are retrieved, providing a pool of songs that have been recommended by people who share some portion of your musical interests.
these select playlists are then examined, and if a song exists on (just for instance here) 50% or more of these playlists then it's assumed that the song has some merit and isn't just one person's fancy. lastly, if the song doesn't already exist in your own playlist, it's recommended to you.

I would venture a guess to say it's a bad logic board followed by (and possibly including) a hard drive with bad sectors. If you can, run apple hardware tests, tech tool pro or apple service diagnostics on both the logic board and hard drive. Backup your stuff as well!

Unless you really need it now, its worth the wait. Better hardware for the same price, why not?

I don't know much about AppleScript, but why escape from AppleScript into the shell just to enter AppleScript again.
Is the above not the equivalent of:
version of application "Application"
Would you look at that. You got it. And yea I knew the code I put didn't make any sense for some reason. Im pretty tired at this point...

Is any one else having problems with the trackpad scrolling options . I have been trying to improve the scrolling from without inertia to with inertia where it has more IOS movement. Each time I reboot I have to fiddle with the control to get back it to where it is more smoother . Quite frustrating but just want to know if others are experiencing the same thing?
What kinda computer are you on? I'm doing fine on my late 2008 Macbook.

Ok, here goes.
I've been on these forums for a while, asking for advice on a number of different subjects.
I'm in a bit of trouble. In the three months since I last left my last permenent job, I've had about a week's work. Which isn't paying the bills.
I'm wondering what the hell to do with my life.
I picked up a pencil yesterday for the first time in around two years and found things a little rusty. I used to draw pictures for a living, but now find myself lacking inspiration and motive.
I need some push in the right direction, and some positive interaction.
My website is still up, although the Flash file needs to come down in size.
I need to get back to my creative roots.

6 September Tuesday - had heard nothing and in the mean time decided to change some items on the order. Was told that I would have to cancel and begin with a new order and would have to speak to MBNA again. Tried to re-order but got tired of waiting.
Sounds like this was the stumbling block.
I don't think you're being unreasonable as it is frustrating but I wouldn't cancel.
Get back onto Apple and try to sort it out. It'll all be worth it when your shiny iMac arrives!

I have a 51 inch HDTV. I was all set, as the earlier threads suggest, to buy the 12 inch powerbook so that I can run the DVI to my tv with blootooth mouse and keyboard. After reading for the last few weeks, I am scared to get the powerbook for so much money until the intel switch. I need a new computer and figure I will get a 12 new or 14 refurbished ibook. I know that running the S-Video to my TV will be of less quality and resolution than the DVI but I want to know if anyone has worked on their TV with this and what they think. It seems like the iBooks are the better value right now. I figure I will get one with my employee discount and sell it for 4 or 500 next year and grab the new powerbook. Im betting that the Intel switch is going to be balls out for Apple. Im guessing they bring out all the stops and start making this race with PC serious.
FYI: You can get a whole lot more than 4 or 500 next year for an iBook. People are still fetching prices in that neighborhood for G3 iBooks.
The market on eBay is crazy for Apples. People will pay for more than computers are worth.
(You could probably make money buying Macs with a student discount and reselling them on eBay)
EDIT: I really have to agree with the point about Apple kicking it up a notch with the Intel switch. Now that the playing field is level, PC makers should really be scrambling.

BTW, what happened to the formatting on the Category:Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Category:Ports) page? Why is it separating the S's like that, and making it a weird grid instead of a simple list of articles??
The category system arranges its tables in deep, dark, mysterious ways. It will look better when the article count grows a little.
Also, why when forwarding the Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Ports) page to the Category:Ports does it not show the entire category?
I put in the syntax tweak that should have made it work, but apparently this bug (http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710) is still unfixed. Can't get there from here :(

I was talking with my ex tonight, and he told me that he has full blown AIDS. I feel so bad for him and want to do whatever I can to help him out, so I searched for a project like Folding@home and found FightAIDS@home. I want to ask anyone and everyone who can help to please do so to help find a cure for AIDS. I don't want to see him or countless others die because of this damn retrovirus. If you could spread the word, create a team, and setup your folding to do work only for FightAIDS@home that'd be great. I'm asking for the community support of the MacRumors forum. Thank you
I've put the link in my signature. Really please, I don't want to see my ex die. If you could get at least one other person to join that'd be great. Also we can create the macrumors team and show the world that the Mac community has a lot of support behind it.
EDIT: Post if you're going to join the project so I can see who's gonna support me and others with this.

Evening all,
I was messing around with logic on my MBP today, and my son (6, nearly 7) was well into it, and soon took over playing around and adding in instruments/loops/effects and loving it.
In his room we have an old iMac G3, with a whopping 400MhZ processor and 512MB of RAM. Anyone got any recommendations for something similar that'll run on his machine? I know it's lacking the horsepower for a lot of the fancier effects, but once upon a time a 400Mhz G3 was cutting edge!
The iMac is running 10.4, and classic, but I have the OS9 CD if running that natively will open up more options. I think I read somewhere that it was possible to trick garageband 1 into running, but not that quickly. I could rig up an external firewire drive if that's likely to make things any more useable.
Cheers for any input.
Mike

A friend has Springsteen tickets for the Oakland Coliseum, one of which is for me.
I chose wisely, which means Saturday A.M. for Leopard. Maybe there will be some shirts left.

I read somewhere that Apple frowns on apps that require interaction with a website. Someone gave me an idea for an App that would require indirect interaction with a website. The website would be either contracted or developed by me.
The app would pretty close to useless without setting up an account on the website and logging in from time to time to (messaging, submissions, getting info from others, etc...)
How does Apple feel about apps that require (or nearly require) setting up an account on a website?
Also, anyone ever use Amazon as a website host? I heard they have some of the best deals going.
Thanks, KarlJay.

I've got a tech problem. This is rare, because I'm a pretty techy guy and most times I can sort things out.
My ipad is struggling with some video imports. The only reason I bought an iPad 2 was to use imovie and well . . .
I'm a journalist. I'm embedding with the armed forces. I want to be able to shoot video on my Sony CX110, pull the SD card out, transfer that video onto the ipad. Then edit it, lay down some basic voice over, and upload the footage directly to youtube/vimeo.
I didn't think this was a super hard idea. But my lowest camera output is an MPG file, that while the ipad 2 can see and import this file from the SD card reader, I cannot view or edit it in any way.
Is there an app that will let me work around this? I understand that I can run an MPG or even a nice high rez MTS file through a desktop converter that will let me play (and maybe edit?) on the ipad. But there isn't space in the back of an armoured vehicle for my desktop, or even a laptop really. Part of why the ipad was my first choice.
Did I make the wrong purchase? Or is there some way to jump the MPEG gap and get those files into imovie? Thanks for any and all help.
Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong.
I am also using Parallels n Win 7 in an Intel 320 160GB SSD.
Parallels does NOT partition your drive. Hence Disk Utility will not detect any partition.
Go ahead n just erase.

Ok, I had a thread about my slower Dell Inspiron 1545 , which I have no idea why it began to break down after only a year. I stated that I may also be upgrading to a MacBook later this year, but my question is , will an external hard drive really be worth it, and will it help keep up the speed and performance of my machines, possibly fixing this damn dell.
