I want to consolidate all my little gadgets into one. What would be the best solution? GPS dock? Some secret obscure 3rd party attachment?
Thanks for your help guys
I looked into this. It's honestly way more economical and sensible to just get a refurb'd Garmin for $79. You're going to pay more than $100 to make your iPod touch do the same thing, and possibly not as good as the dedicated Garmin unit will do.

Hi guys.
I'm a little confused here, i've been an iPhone user for a long time and i'm getting an iPod touch for my girlfriend so she can use it on skype.
Is it true that the current 8GB iPod Touch is actually the second generation model? and the 32/64gb versions are 3rd gen models?
Thanks.
Technically the 8gb is third gen, but its just the name, other than that theres no difference.

I would think an OS X client would be the best, and a non-graphical client at the least, but I'm not an expert.
They did just realease the command-line client with a GUI frontend for turning it on and off, but I have experienced problems with it not wanting to stay off...

it's amazing how quickly things change
just got this imac in aug 2010
and already the connection ports are becoming outdated
truth be told, FW800 is more than adequate
it's a psychological thing
wanting the latest and greatest

I use ImageCapture. All Macs have this App. I set it to auto open whenever my iPhone is connected.
+1 for image capture. Much less of a hassle than Iphoto. Much more intuitive.

Earlier today, http://macnn.com was not working. http://www.macnn.com was working though. They said it had to do something with a hard drive crash (I think).

Brand does not matter. Buy the drive with the best warranty that fits your budget. No platter-based drive is better than any other.

I have a couple websites that are hosted on the "Web" area in my iDisk and am wondering how I can setup my web editor of choice, Coda, to access the site remotely. From what I understand, this is the same area where iWeb created site are deposited. I have been getting my with drag and drop so far but it can be a PITA.
Bonus question: Anyone successfully run a WordPress site on .mac?
Any help or insight greatly appreciated. -Hugo
FTP access available for .mac? I'd really like to live edit via Coda. Thanks!

I have a little more information, though not a lot.
I spoke to an Apple employee about 30 min ago, and he said something to the effect of, "There is a line out there, not terribly long, but it's early."
So I'm sure there are some people there - hopefully the weather being sub-optimal will encourage people to stay home and keep the lines shorter! :)

Will there be any more new product announcements at Macworld? I did not know if they do all the product announcements on the 1st day or what. I'm really hoping for a true video iPod. Just wondering if there's a chance of new product announcements for the rest of the week! Thanks

One thing you should bear in mind is that Snow Leopard Client has pretty much ALL of the server capabilities that server has. Snow Leopard server just gives you an extra suite of tools to use.
For File sharing/webserver/dns server/mail server/yada yada yada Snow leopard client is more than capable. Also yes, the Mac Mini makes a GREAT little server. Mines been running 24/7 since I got it almost a year ago, except for required updates.

It keeps booting back in Windows. Can I do hold option to select the start up disk and then do it? When I just tried it was just spinning again. Should this load into Terminal?

Hi all,
I'm curious to know if you can create a wireless Hotspot using an iPad's 3G connection, to connect a laptop/other wifi device to over wifi?
Cheers.
Here in the States we don't have such an option. Do you have the option? You can always use something like MyWi to enable this feature, again here in the states our carrier AT&T frowns upon doing this, and has sent out letters to some users... At this point one can't be sure if it is do to excessive usage, or they now have a means of detection....

I have a wireless router supplied by Verizon for our FiOS TV/Internet package. I also have an old 802.11g Airport Extreme Base Station (the "flying saucer" model from 2005) connected to it via an Ethernet cable and configured as a bridge so I can run an Apple network. I also have an 802.11g Airport Express from 2005 in another area of the house to extend wireless coverage, and to stream Airtunes to our home theater system. There are two Macs on the network, both running OS 10.6.7.
Every so often over the past year, I'd notice that the light on the AE would be orange. I'd unplug and replug the AE, and the light would go back to green. I don't know what if any effect this had on our wireless network. Our Macs, iPhones, and iPads worked fine. Airtunes was spotty, sometimes working well, and sometimes dropping out. We also have a Sony wireless Blu-Ray player that streams Pandora, and it's been more reliable than Airplay, but it occasionally drops out, requiring reconnecting to the network.
Last week, the Apple network starting dropping out on a daily basis. Our Macs automatically default to the Verizon wireless router, but our iPhones and iPads don't. Sometimes I can reconnect to the Apple network, but sometimes the devices won't recognize the network password. When the latter happens, unplugging and re-plugging the AEBS restores the network.
Today, while troubleshooting, I noticed that the AE didn't appear in Airport Utility, even though the light was solid green. I connected it to my Mac via an Ethernet cable, and it appeared in Airport Utility. When I tried to check the settings, it asked for the password, but the password I remembered didn't work. So I did a hard reset on the AE to reconfigure it. I configured it to join my existing network, and to extend network coverage. I got a message saying that it was updated successfully, and to wait for it to restart. It never restarted; the orange light remained flashing, and Airport Utility gave an error message saying the AE didn't restart. I've tried the hard reset several times. When the AE first appears in Airport Utility, it says it's configured as a base station on its own network. When I go through the reconfiguration routine, it says that the update was successful, but the AE never restarts, and the light stays in flashing orange mode.
I don't know if I have multiple problems. Could I have a defective AE? If so, could it have been causing the Apple network to drop out? Now that I've unplugged it, signal strength is lower in the rest of the house, just as it was before I bought the AE in 2005. The network hasn't dropped out, but it's only been a few hours.
Could I have a defective AEBS? My MacBook Pro is right next to my AEBS, and it has full bars. However, I'm holding my iPhone 4 right next to my AEBS, and wireless strength is only 2 bars. If I move 5 feet away, bars go to full. Once I get to the other side of the house, it drops back to 2 bars. Airport Utility says that the AEBS is fine, though.
To my knowledge, I don't have any other devices that could be interfering with airport, but my next-door neighbor might. I'm going to try switching to a different wireless channel, but interference wouldn't explain why my AE won't restart.
Finally, if I do determine that my AE is bad, is it worth upgrading my AEBS to the current version? In other words, is 80211n (which our newer Macs support) less subject to dropouts than 802.11g, or does it just offer faster throughput?
