Hi, just started the folding malarkey to bump up the MR team a bit. Have a wicked-fast connection to the internet (college connection ~ 20Mbit i dunno, never reached the limit!) and an iMac g4 1GHz working solely on folding.
The progress has been at 0.04% for about half an hour now, what am I doing wrong?
Top shows CPU dedicating 70-80% of CPU going on Folding (FahCore_78)
Well, the speed of your internet connection has nothing to do with it... it is all about your processor. It is possible that the program just happened to grab a really big protein from the server. I'm running on a G5@ 1.8 and have had some proteins taking many days to complete. My iBook G3 took forever. So, I'd just be patient.

lol, your welcome. It's a great machine. Really upgradeable. I mean, seriously, even 5 years from now, I think if I put in a 512mb vid card, 8gb of ram and two 400gb (or larger dependent on tech then) harddrives, something tells me it would at least keep up ok. I mean, look at the B&W G3 towers, those are still pretty capable and I don't feel that they are at all as upgradeable comparing them to other computers of their era, and comparing this to computers of it's era (memory wise.) Of course, you can't upgrade the processor on these boxes though.
**edit**
Actually it'd be like comparing to the G4 tower lol, even better.

Take you music off your iPad (use your ipod for music).
16gigs is plenty for apps if you don't put music or videos on your iPad

I find MacRumors as a great place for help, and I ask on here before any other forums.

I guess it depends which packages you've installed. E.g. fakeclockup and Springtomize (even w/ disabled animation) destroyed the smoothness on 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 on our 4 iP4's.
If you're running only stock JB w/o restoring to an old Backup you should be fine. Have you tried that also?
Well I did have fakeclockup installed at one point but I removed it because even though it did speed things up, it just didn't look and feel smooth to me.

Buying a computer with a Core 2 Duo CPU sounds like a bad idea right now...
That's what I was thinking too. (Regardless of the operating system)

Personally, I'd go for an Apple display. It's only once it's sitting on your desk you realise how incredible this thing is. It looks and performs brilliantly, and matches the Power Mac perfectly.
Apple displays all the way - even if they are hooooogely expensive in comparison.
Cheers,
andy.

Consumers Union, as part of their efforts to publicize prescription drug issues, has come up with a silly Jib-Jab style animated movie named "The Drugs I Need!". You can find the page about it here (http://cu.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=Rx_song_download).
Because it follows their style, the Jib-Jab brothers, who don't care about the consumer activism involved (they stay neutral on the issues), are helping publicize it (http://www.jibjab.com/cu_landing.html), which is how I heard about it.
The Drugs I Need!:QuickTime movie, low bandwidth (http://anon.newmediamill.speedera.net/anon.newmediamill/animate2.mov) (2.2MB)
QuickTime movie, high bandwidth (http://anon.newmediamill.speedera.net/anon.newmediamill/animatebb2.mov) (8.5MB)
Music only, MP3 (http://anon.newmediamill.speedera.net/anon.newmediamill/animate.mp3) (2.6MB)
Enjoy!

You're going to keep experiencing OS X in the positive motives you had a few days ago. Even though I have used OS X for over a year, I am still learning and liking it.
Don't worry about what PC users smack in your face. Just know that you are one owner and user of the world's smallest affordable, portable supercomputer.
BTW: You said you were going to get a new desktop in a year? Watch for the G5s.
Congrats.

But at least it would seem there are people out there in a similar situation. The main problem for me at the moment is that I can't bring myself to create anything good. I'm a bit crap right now....

The Cartella from Pad and Quill?
http://padandquill.com/the-cartella-for-macbook-air.html
That's the one. Just ordered one in green.
Yeah, the case makes the overall footprint larger, but I like the overall look and protection they afford especially when traveling. I have the InvisibleShield stuff applied for daily protective duties where the case will be too large.
There is another maker of these things, DODOCase (http://www.dodocase.com/). They only have iPAD1/2, Kindle and BB Playbook (???!) binders. I ordered one for my iPAD 2.
They look like they may be slightly higher quality. I like the color ranges of the Dodo's better then the Quills.
Thanks for the assist

Your computer is infected with some description of malware, which is giving you this message, probably to fool you into buying their useless software. Superantispyware is not an anti-virus program, so you need to cover all the angles. Download, install, update and scan with these programs:
Spyware Terminator: http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Avira AntiVir Classic: http://www.free-av.com/
AVG anti-spyware free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-fre
If they do not solve the problem, try restarting in safe mode (press f8 repeatedly while your computer starts up), and scan in that. Then reboot your computer into normal windows, and see if it is gone. If not, scan with http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en
and then online with http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

I am using my 13" MBA for Xcode just fine. From a performance standpoint, the current 11" MBA will be fine. 64GB might be a little tight on storage though. If you plan on doing anything else with the machine (large iTunes library, etc.) then you will probably want more storage. 2GB of RAM should be fine unless you have a very large project. Personally, I have the 4GB model. You can't upgrade the RAM later, so if you think you might want 4GB, you need to buy it upfront.
I seriously doubt the new MBA will have built-in ethernet. Apple hasn't put ethernet on one so far so I seriously doubt they will start now.

Are you feeling the "shocks" when you rest your palms on the laptop, i.e., the area just under the keyboard and next to the trackpad? If so, I experience the same problem once in a while. It's probably just static electricity. Are you using a third-party power adapter? I find that I get these "shocks" when using my MacAlly adapter, but not with my Apple one. Possible explanation: the Apple one has a third prong at the end of its extension cord, which grounds the charge; the MacAlly, with its standard two-prong end, does not.
Hope this helps.

PS3 Media Server (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/) will get just about any file you can find onto your TV through the PS3. Works great.
As for games, if you want to start off slow, try some of the downloadable games from the PSN store. There is a series of games called "Pixel Junk" which are good fun. PJ Shooter and PJ Eden are both great games. I also really like "Echochrome" as well. It is very simple looking, but a good brain-bending puzzle game.
As for disc based games, well, the sky's the limit really. Shooters, Driving, Action, RPGs, you name it, there is probably a game you'll like. If you want PS3 exclusive stuff, Metal Gear Solid 4 is pretty fun, as are the 2 Uncharted games. I also really like Warhawk, which is an online shooter. Plenty of good games. I'm sure some other people will chime in with their choices as well.
